AARTA’s Involvement with the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley
The Aurora Area Retired Teachers Association (AARTA) has been working for retired teachers in Kane County for over 60 years. Due to their continued interest in education, members of the AARTA created the Aurora Area Retired Teachers Association Scholarship Fund to assist students attending a two-year college, or a professional, trade or vocational school. Eligibility is restricted to students who reside within the Community Foundation service area and within the boundaries of the following school districts: East Aurora 131, West Aurora 129, Kaneland 302, Batavia 101, Geneva 304 or St. Charles 303. The AARTA, which is the local unit of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association, has around 400 members. In addition to providing this scholarship, members create and distribute lap blankets to residents of area care centers, as well as volunteer at our two local food banks: the Aurora Interfaith Food Pantry and the Marie Wilkinson Food Pantry. We also contribute school supplies to both organizations as well as warm winter wear to Community in Schools.
