Recap of the IRTA Chicago Prohibition Tour: A Journey Through History
On September 25, 2024, history buffs and food lovers came together for the IRTA Chicago Prohibition Tour, a fascinating journey through the city’s vibrant and notorious past. The day kicked off at the legendary Exchequer, a spot reminiscent of the Roaring Twenties, where attendees savored a delicious lunch featuring fresh salad and hearty pizza.
After the meal, the group boarded a tour bus, buzzing with excitement as they set off to explore two iconic speakeasies: Butch McGuire’s and Harry Caray’s. At each location, participants enjoyed a glass of wine or beer while delving into the captivating tales and hidden secrets of the Prohibition era, when bootleggers and gangsters ruled the streets of Chicago.
This immersive tour offered a tantalizing glimpse into the city’s colorful history, blending delectable food and drink with engaging stories from a time when speakeasies flourished. As the participants returned to Exchequer, they left not only with satisfied appetites but also with a richer understanding of Chicago’s dynamic heritage.
