Meet Erica Pinkley, IRTA Comptroller

As part of our mission to bring the Illinois Retired Teachers Association (IRTA) closer to our members, we’re thrilled to introduce a new feature in our upcoming e-newsletter: “In Their Own Words.” Each month, we’ll spotlight a dedicated team member, sharing their unique stories and experiences. We’re excited to continue this series with Erica Pinkley.
I grew up in Illiopolis, a tiny town between Springfield and Decatur with about 800 people. I attended Illiopolis schools my whole life and graduated in 2005 as the first graduating class of the Sangamon Valley School District. I have resided in Riverton, IL, for the past 12 years.
I attended the University of Illinois in Springfield, where I obtained my bachelor’s degree in business administration and a minor in accounting in 2013. In 2016, I completed my master’s degree in business administration from Benedictine University with a concentration in accounting. I have been working in the accounting field for 17 years, with 13 of those years in non-profit accounting. This is my fifth year as IRTA Comptroller.
As IRTA Comptroller, I am responsible for putting together the monthly financial statements for IRTA, the IRTA Foundation, and IRTAPAC, along with everything that comes with it! Some of my other duties include reconciling all accounts for all entities, including investments, processing payroll, preparing payroll reports, annual reports, accounts payable, accounts receivable, preparing the annual budget, year-end work, and being the point of contact for the annual audit. I also administer the IRTA Foundation Assistance Program. It is very rewarding to be involved in helping individuals who have helped shape so many lives.
Outside of work, I have a 13-year-old daughter who keeps me very busy with sports! She is on two different softball teams, plays school basketball and travel basketball, as well as volleyball. This keeps us busy all year round! I also have a 16-year-old son who plays football and a 19-year-old son who is out in the workforce. When I am not busy with work or kids, I have a little time left to love on my 5-year-old rottweiler named Rosie.
IRTA is a great place to work and a wonderful organization to be a part of. We have excellent leadership that is guiding us in wonderful new directions, and I am excited for a long future with IRTA!
We look forward to sharing more stories from our dedicated staff members in future issues of our e-newsletter. Stay tuned to get to know the incredible people who make IRTA the vibrant community it is today.
