Jim Bachman, Executive Director of IRTA, Honored as Inaugural Recipient of the Spirit of AMBA Award

Association Benefits Member Advisors (AMBA) has announced Jim Bachman, the long-serving Executive Director of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association (IRTA), as the inaugural recipient of the Spirit of AMBA Award, AMBA’s most prestigious honor.

Since assuming his role at the IRTA in 2004, Bachman has consistently embodied AMBA’s mission and purpose, championing the needs of the retired teachers of Illinois and fostering a strong partnership with AMBA. His innovative thinking, coupled with a forward-thinking approach to the challenges faced by associations, has been instrumental in driving growth and enhancing member experience.

The award comes as Bachman has announced his retirement, set for December of this year. His nearly two decades of service to the IRTA has left an indelible mark on the association, its members and AMBA.

Upon receiving the award, Bachman expressed both his gratitude and a sense of reflection. “I am deeply humbled to be the first recipient of this award,” said Bachman. “My journey with the IRTA and our partnership with AMBA has always been about serving our members and making a difference. I hope this award serves as inspiration to all who are committed to supporting and advocating for their associations and members.”

Omarr Guerrero, Vice President of Member Experience at AMBA, spoke highly of Bachman’s dedication to his work. “Jim’s unyielding commitment to AMBA and IRTA’s missions and the members of IRTA has been a beacon of inspiration for all of us,” Guerrero said. “As he prepares to embark on his well-deserved retirement, this award stands as a testament to his incredible impact. Jim is leaving behind a legacy of leadership, innovation, and service.”
