Moler-Austin Scholarship Results

The Moler-Austin Scholarship is another scholarship available through the Illinois Retired Teachers Association Foundation. This year three scholarships of $4,500 are being awarded to Kendall County high school graduates pursuing a degree in education. This scholarship is available because of a generous gift from IRTA member Identa Austin. Identa donated 80 acres of land to the IRTA, and the profits from the sale of that land are used to fund the Moler-Austin scholarship.

The 2014 recipients are Ilir Emini, Michael Lauderdale, and Melissa McNanna.

Ilir Emini will be entering his junior year at Knox College in Galesburg, IL this fall and pursuing a degree in Elementary Education with a minor in History. Ilir is from Yorkville, Illinois, and graduated from Yorkville High School in 2012. He is also on the Knox College football team and has been a starter since his freshman year. Ilir will be assisting the head athletic trainer at practices and will be tutoring fellow football teammates.

Michael Lauderdale attends Waubonsee Community College and in the fall will be attending Aurora University where he plans to major in Elementary Education and minor in Special Education. Michael is from Montgomery, Illinois, and graduated in 2012 from Oswego East High School. He was granted the honorary Lucile Gustafson Scholarship at Waubonsee Community College and has been inducted into Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.

Melissa McNanna will be entering her sophomore year at Eastern Illinois University, where she is majoring in Elementary Education with an endorsement in Special Education for grades K-12. Melissa is from Yorkville, Illinois, and graduated from Newark Community High School in 2013. During the summer, she works at the Plano YMCA as a camp counselor.

The IRTA wishes Ilir, Michael, and Melissa the very best as they complete their course work to become educators. If you know anyone interested in applying for next year's scholarships, please contact Susan Goetz at 800.728.4782 or for further information.
